All other things being equal, it's usually a bit harder, takes a bit longer, and is a bit more formal to establish consensus in virtual meetings of more than a few participants. Virtual meetings have many advantages, but they often need a few adjustments to work as well as face-to-face discussions where we have access to rich body language cues and other communication shortcuts. In this video, we briefly explore consensus in virtual settings, identify a few common types of consensus, and some adaptations you might like to consider for managing collective decisions in virtual meetings.
